- Under general supervision, performs journey-level tasks in repair and maintenance including carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, and basic electrical work.
- Performs facilities maintenance and repair tasks, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing and carpentry.
- Operates and maintains hand and power tools.
- Works independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience.
- Duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
- Identifies material and equipment needs for each assigned project, and orders supplies.
- Troubleshoots facility problems and maintenance issues, and develops cost-effective solutions.
- Performs repairs, preventive maintenance and component replacement on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, security, carpentry and mechanical systems.
- Repairs and rebuilds interior structures and components as needed.
- Repairs external structures and components as needed.
- Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Notifies supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority.
- Maintains grounds and landscaping as needed; may include use of weed and pest control chemicals.
- Operates a variety of specialized equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed.
- Reports problems and emergency situations.
- Maintains records of services performed, and time and material costs.
- Controls work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
- Assures that hazardous materials are cleaned up in a timely manner and controlled according to City policy and procedures.
- Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND three year’s experience in building maintenance work; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Required knowledge of City policies and procedures; tools and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance; local, state and Federal building codes and regulations; and operation, maintenance, repair and safety standards for motorized equipment and vehicles.
- Required skills in using advanced repair and maintenance methods on electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems; operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner; prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands; following and maintaining safety standards; and closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors; required to perform moderate physical work, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
