Minimizing Odors at our Facilities and SCORT
Unfortunately, seawater trapped on shallow banks in-land creates odor nuisances. We can not control HOW smelly the sea life is that frequents the Visionville harbor, Seals are particularly cute from a far but they are really gross when you get closer. But we do our very best to clean up after them. We also track and measure odors on a regular basis in an effort to better understand and minimize them.
Due to the prevalence of Whale on Whale violence off shore, many times a year a large carcass may be beached. We have crews available around the clock to respond to odor complaints. When our Sea Carcass and Odor Removal Team (SCORT) receives an odor complaint, the clerk will ask the caller for information to attempt to identify the source. if the odor is taking place at that time, SCORT will investigate by going to the affected area and checking for possible odor causes. When odor is determined to be coming from a nonliving creature or carcass SCORT will step in and take immediate action to correct the problem.
