Accessibility (WCAG 2.0 AA) 101

The way that Granicus built the CMS, the widgets and how the front end works, fulfils the ability for individuals to Perceive, Operate, Understand, and is Robust enough to work with common Assistive Technology (POUR). BUT- it is entirely up to you and your colleagues to produce and maintain your content up to WCAG 2.0 AA standards. Using the CMS properly, and thinking differently about your content is something that requires stepping back from your web page and asking- "does this work for someone who is using Assistive Tech?" This is not as obvious to all of us and takes practice.

We at Granicus think that you should do as much independent learning about WCAG 2.0 AA as possible. However, you need to use the CMS to create and display your content.

Example:

An upcoming Parks and Rec event is going to be held at the Senior Center. You have created a beautiful flyer with all necessary information and have printed those fliers and distributed them to many of your offices, and recreation locations. This flyer is a huge hit... But, should this flyer be used on your website? Probably not.

Fliers uploaded as documents or images require the Site Visitor to be able to Perceive, Understand, and Operate your web content in a visual way to gain an information from that piece of content because their Assistive Tech is not Robust enough to explain it to the Site Visitor.
